Requirements
The residency is accredited for both the academic and practicum years. The residents complete these years concurrently over two years.
All residents must complete the following requirements:
1. Academic Year includes MPH in one of the following areas of concentrations:
. Environmental Health
. Health Services Administration
. Epidemiology
. Health Promotion
. Biometry
48-56 units are required, with many residents completing 55-60 units. The Graduate School of Public Health also requires a thesis, project or comprehensive examination.
All Preventive Medicine residents are required to complete a Masters in Public Health (MPH).
Those residents who already have an MPH before entering the program must still enroll in the School of Public Health and complete a full PGY2 and PGY3 year.
2. The practicum "year" is done over a two year period, concurrent with the academic year. It includes a series of tasks, also done concurrently: research, rotations, didactics, public health exposure and community health exposure. These are described in detail through the link: Practicum Year
